Book of the month - April

Updated: Apr 6

This month we move to northern Europe, to Scandinavia. The term "hygge" has been around for a few years now, but we want to take a closer look at what lies behind the term. We have therefore chosen The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living, written by Meik Wiking as book of the month.

The Little Book of Hygge

After having had a deep dive into geopolitics with"Prisoners of Geography" as book of the month in March, we focus in April on a different topic.

In the worldwide happiness report 2022, 2023 and 2024 the Danes were always able to be ranked second only to Finland. Why is that the case and how can we learn to become as happy as them? The little book of Hygge answers exactly these questions.

What does Hygge mean?

When entering Hygge into Google Translate it just simply says it means "Fun". DeepL takes a different approach and translates it as "Coziness". But the real meaning behind Hygge is much deeper. It is a special kind of sensation. When you cozy up in your bed with a warm coffee in one hand and reading a fascinating book while is is snowing outside - that is hygge. But having a barbecue on a warm summer evening together with your best friends is also hygge.

In our book of the month in April, we will take a closer look on all these sensations and explain how we can achieve this feeling of hygge more in our daily lives in order to be more happy.

In order to create your best self it is important to understand human emotions and sensations to the fullest, even the deepest meanings. What brings us together as humans? What makes us feel loved and comfortable? How can we become happy? Hygge might give us some answers to these questions.

Join us on our discussion about the Danish secret of being happy "Hygge" in our book of the month "The little book of Hygge" by Meik Wiking.
